Layer 3 switching, up to 4 Gigabit ports,
and modular flexibility
The EDS-828 delivers the full-wired speed of Layer 3 switching and a redundant Gigabit backbone in a modular platform, making it suitable for critical network connections with high-rate data transmission. Layer 3 switching helps organize and optimize your LAN segment choice, and upgrade flexibility is guaranteed with the interchangeable Gigabit and fast Ethernet modules, which come with SFP, copper, and fiber optic ports. Up to 4 Gigabit ports that support redundant ring and uplinks are available for creating a powerful redundant Gigabit Ethernet network for backbone applications. In addition, the EDS-828's advanced management and security features make it unsurpassed in network reliability and speed.

Superior network redundancy
This modular solution provides a choice of media and bandwidth configurations, but also leaves room for future expansion. Mixing copper and fiber ports has gained popularity in industrial LANs where fiber is preferred for noise immunity, long-distance transmission, and to avoid ground loops. Up to 4 Gigabit ports are supported for redundant Gigabit ring and uplinks under critical environments.
The EDS-828 offers a Layer 3 switching solution that uses high performance hardware to integrate routing capabilities into the Layer 3 switch. Instead of handling routing with software, Layer 3 switching provides a faster and less expensive way to segment a network and optimize network traffic. Comprehensive management functions are provided, including QoS, IGMP snooping/GMRP, VLAN, LACP, SNMPv1/v2c/v3, and RMON, to help administrators better manage their network system. Security features include IEEE 802.1X, HTTPS, and SSH. With such an array of sophisticated functions, users can enjoy an optimized and highly efficient network, but with a minimum of complexity.
Today, high network availability achieved through redundancy is becoming a key criterion for many industrial network deployments. To minimize downtime caused by network failure, the EDS-828 supports Gigabit Turbo Ring redundancy to simplify and speed up network fault recovery (recovery time of the Gigabit fiber ring < 20 ms). Moxa Turbo Ring provides multiple ring coupling topologies, such as Ring Coupling, Dual homing, and Dual Ring to fit specific application needs.
