Moxa introduces award-winning modular gigabit Ethernet switch
for Gigabit networking

Taipei, Taiwan, Apr 2, 2008—Moxa Inc. has introduced the
EDS-728, a new entry into their modular Ethernet switch series that supports up to four Gigabit ports, 24 Fast Ethernet ports, and advanced network control. The EDS-728 is specially designed for redundant Gigabit network backbones and uses a modular configuration to provide a high degree of flexibility for network expansion. Top network performance, security, and reliability is assured through the EDS-728's advanced management features, including QoS, IGMP snooping/GMRP, VLAN, LACP, SNMP V1/V2c/V3, and RMON. The EDS-728 also features industrial-grade construction, a console port for automatic configuration backup, and an angled LED troubleshooting panel that can be conveniently viewed from both horizontal and vertical orientations. Especially, the EDS-728 won the international recognized “Honourable Mention" red dot design award, one of the world's largest and most prestigious design awards. Award recipients were selected from among 3,203 entries and 51 countries.

Gigabit Ethernet performance and redundancy
Networks are increasingly expected to support high-bandwidth applications such as video and audio over IP, and Gigabit Ethernet infrastructures are used to guarantee bandwidth and availability. Gigabit modules of the EDS-728 support Moxa's Turbo Ring for fiber network redundancy, which can recover from network disconnections within 20 ms. The Turbo Ring is designed to handle a wide variety of infrastructures through functions such as ring coupling and dual-homing, and the EDS-728's four Gigabit ports ensures high bandwidth communication between connected rings. The powerful combination of bandwidth, flexible architecture, and fault recovery make the EDS-728 a very attractive redundant networking solution for critical industrial systems.

Modular design for maximum flexibility
The EDS-728's modular design allows the switch to be expanded through interchangeable Gigabit and Fast Ethernet modules with SFP, copper, and fiber optic (SC/ST) connectors.
