Snap-on uses NPort 1240 for shoebox-sized IPC application
Product used : NPort 1240
Country: United States
Company: Snap-on

Snap-on Incorporated, a leading global developer, manufacturer, and marketer of tool and equipment solutions, has chosen Moxa's NPort 1240 as one of the components of their SUN Machine 450, which generates vehicle-specific engine diagnostics for thousands of early and late-model vehicles.

The problem faced by Snap-on was that most of the sensors used by the SUN Machine 450 are RS-232 devices, but the IPC in the machine only provides 2 serial and 2 USB ports. Furthermore, because of the shoebox size of the controller, it was not possible to install a multiport serial board. To get around this problem, Snap-on used NPort 1240, a USB to 4-port RS-232 serial HUB to connect to the IPC's existing USB port.

Overall Benefits:
1 USB port expands to 4 RS-232 ports
Hassle-free solution-additional I/O or IRQ settings are not required
Plug & play solution
Power over USB feature eliminates the need for an additional external power source
